Can Cabbage be Special?

Some days everything you touch just seems to turn to ashes or you find yourself just going through the motions. You wind up going from to-do list to to-do list with no end in sight. What are we waiting for; the kids to grow up or retirement? This illusive unicorn time where we can focus on what matters to us and find joy. My challenge is for us to slow down today and look at what's around us and enjoy!
My current home is in Filderstadt, Germany, and I am learning to love it here. The city shares its name with the filder cabbage. And I must confess I don't really like cabbage(I can still recall its putrid smell filling the house from my childhood). Like the large green vegetable, Filderstadt is a place that may be a little off putting at first to some; with the construction, serious faces, and so many houses side by side, but the people here have deep roots in where they live and care deeply for it. They take time to enjoy the beauty of nature and the people around them. They'll spend hours; cycling, at the park with their kids, or enjoying a drink with friends. I think, just like the city I am living in, bit by bit, I will slowly learn to love cabbage too, given time... even if it feels like I am beginning with a smelly vegetable.
