Plain

There are a lot of bakeries where I live in Filderstadt. Not like the ones I grew up with where everything is full of sugar and they sell cakes smothered in buttercream icing; topped with icing roses.

These are actual bakeries that sell bread with a mouthwatering selection of pastries. And you ask me which is my favorite. I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said I didn't enjoy a sweet pastry. But my favorite is a croissant. Not a chocolate one, or cheese, or pistachio. simply a plain croissant.

There's something beautiful about plain. You can't hide the imperfections behind icing or cover up lack of flavor with sweet fillings. Everything is exposed. Like a plain dress or no make-up. There's beauty in the simplicity. So I challenge you to be beautifully plain today.
