The Best Nail Salon in Town

It hit me today that I moved from the land of entertainment, laundry mats, and pedicures to the land of festivals, bread, and bikes. The lack of laundry mats probably explains why not everyone smells so nice while riding on the bus. But also why everyone is in such good shape from riding bikes for kilometers just for the fun of it.

This summer, I have had some difficulty finding a new nail salon. It's not like Dallas where there’s one in every shopping center. Not that I ever went often. Okay, I honestly went like every couple of years, but its nice to pamper yourself after a stressful week. So I tried calling one nail salon near my house (so I don’t have to ride my bike with wet nails), but they never answered. Then money became tight with our vacation coming up and simply life. So no pedicure appointment. And its fine, not that many people even get pedicures here. Closed toe shoes are worn most of the year and people look like they paint their own nails. There’s also way less make-up including polish worn here. It’s more expectable to simply have filed bare nails or light make-up.

So I knew painting my own would be fine. And then my daughter shows up and surprises me with a thorough pedicure, well very thorough for a 6 year old. She buffed my nails and even took the time to vary the colors. We need more of this, and I don’t mean just pedicures. We don't need more paid for perfection, but gifted excellence. Yes, maybe I could have gotten a professional pedicure or have done it myself (better?), but I would have been the one to miss out.

So embrace the joy of a simple gift. And find the beauty in imperfection. And yes, the perfectionist in me wanted to touch them up at first. But I wouldn’t because I want to stop telling the next generation that their best isn’t good enough for me. Because it is. And it's a priceless gift.
