What is Christmas?

Christmas has felt different this year. No amount of lights, cookies, or presents can change it. Maybe it's because my family is thousands of miles away or maybe it's the lack of compassion from political rulers these days.

But it's just not the same. But come to think of it, that sounds a lot like how the first Christmas began...maybe Christmas will be a bit different this year but it's still Christmas.

And so the merry in Merry Christmas feels a bit forced this year. Like putting on a too tight itchy sweater because it looks nice and it was a gift.

However, it is apparent my daughter does not feel this way. It has been good to my heart to see my daughter's excitement and wonder at Christmas. But that's her joy not exactly mine. I am trying my best to focus on what Christmas is really about because that has truly been the best moments of Christmas. Sharing how important my faith is to me while walking through a Christmas market. Singing silent night as my dad plays it on the Harmonica that I sent across the miles to him for Christmas (And these things happened because others helped.)

Christmas is about truly good things happening despite the circumstances around us. It's not about the outward things but inwardly being ready to accept the gift of Christmas.

A gift of pure goodness and new beginnings. So I wish you a Merry Christmas and a bright new year.
